The Coleman Foundation's generosity established one of the first endowed entrepreneurship chairs in the U.S. at UIC and the concurrent launch of a
pioneering Institute. Today there are numerous programs serving our successful students, research colleagues, entrepreneurs and the great city of Chicago.
SERVING UIC AND THE NATION’S STUDENTS
UIC UNDERGRADUATE MAJOR
Courses and modules deal with opportunities, feasibility, business plans, financing, consulting and interning with entrepreneurs. A Certificate in Entrepreneurship is available and a Major is offered, approved by the IL Board of Higher Education.
PhD PROGRAM
With prominent research professors publishing in the highest ranked
journals, the graduates of UIC's PhD program benefit from state of the art entrepreneurship seminars, teaching experience, and mentoring.
CAMPUSWIDE ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Several new programs are extending across the campus,
with students from other colleges combining their studies with courses in entrepreneurship. Our program is linked with a UIC owned 35 biotechnology firm business incubator, where our students learn about high-tech entrepreneurship.
CONCEPT2VENTURE
C2V is a campuswide business plan competition with attention to commercializing technologies. Winning national and regional Business Plan competitions have become a source of UIC funding and credibility.
ENTREPRENEURSHIP INTERN PROGRAM
The placement of students with successful, experienced entrepreneurs where great learning happens!
COLLEGIATE ENTREPRENEURS’ ORGANIZATION
IES sponsors a national entrepreneurship student organization with a vision of 400 university chapters and 20,000 students. Membership benefits include chat rooms with prominent entrepreneurs, hard copy newsletters, an annual national conference, networking, regional conferences and more.
UIC MBA CONCENTRATION
UIC pioneered MBA programs in entrepreneurship and is top ranked in the nation as a “Model Program” by USASBE. Students select from several courses that provide important knowledge, from recognition of opportunities to reaping the rewards.
MENTORING PROGRAM
Our extensive network of outstanding business owners enables us to offer our students an unparalleled opportunity to learn from the masters in a one-on-one and small group format.
UIC ENTREPRENEURSHIP WEEK
The Chancellor designates a campus wide, annual Entrepreneur Week which is culminated in the Spring with a celebration of premier
entrepreneurs and hundreds of participating students.
DISTINGUISHED ENTREPRENEURSHIP
SPEAKER SERIES
The Chicago Area Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame provides the stellar
entrepreneurs that only a large urban area can produce in quantity. Our classrooms are unique in the number of Distinguished Guest
Entrepreneurs who serve as “live cases”.
ENTREPRENEURSHIP RESIDENCE HALL
A new incubator space is being developed to enable UIC student
entrepreneurs to work on their own new ventures and learn from each
other. Also, an entrepreneurship residence hall.
SEED CAPITAL CONSORTIUM
A number of angel investors and venture capitalists are allied with the UIC program to assist and potentially finance student ventures.
CREATING NEW ENTREPRENEURSHIP KNOWLEDGE
UIC ANNUAL RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM ON
MARKETING AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Leading researchers in the U.S. and throughout the world contribute to this Symposium, held for 20 years, with a research book published each year. Improved understanding of the marketing/entrepreneurship interface occurs with useful findings for entrepreneurs and educators.
UIC FACULTY AND PHD STUDENT RESEARCH
A major stream of quality research has developed at UIC regarding
opportunity recognition, strategy, international entrepreneurship,
innovation, e-commerce entrepreneurship and marketing/entrepreneurship. UIC is globally respected as world class in these areas.
SERVING THE ENTREPRENEURIAL COMMUNITY
CHICAGO AREA ENTREPRENEURSHIP HALL OF FAME
An annual celebration and gala dinner to recognize the finest
entrepreneurs in the Chicago seven county area. Hundreds of attendees help to make this an outstanding event, sponsored by prestigious firms that service the entrepreneurial sector.
ENTREPRENEURSHIP CERTIFICATE IN
BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION PROGRAM
This program for entrepreneurs and their key people is intense and practical and meets two full days, twice a month for four months. This national award winning program, featured in Fortune Small Business, uniquely serves business owners who give it outstanding ratings.
CENTER FOR URBAN BUSINESS
This program connects entrepreneurs to talented
entrepreneurship students. The students carry out projects to advance
the enterprises for course credit. An IL Small Business Development
Center serves area business owners.
FAMILY BUSINESS COUNCIL
This highly successful college program is one of the largest of its type in the nation. It serves CEOs and families by strengthening leadership, management and the quality of family relationships within the firm.
CHICAGO WEST SIDE ENTREPRENEURSHIP CENTER
Our center serves businesses with the potential to become high growth firms, through assistance and targeted small grants. The first center designated by the Governor, sponsored by the IL DCEO, we partner with Chicago Community Ventures.
