Program Overview

The Center for Entrepreneurial Studies (www.ces.unc.edu) oversees all teaching, research, and extracurricular activities related to entrepreneurship in the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School and plays an integral role in the Carolina Entrepreneurial Initiative (www.unc.edu/cei), an $11-million Kauffman-funded cross-campus program. The Center, launched in 1997, is a center of excellence within the Frank Hawkins Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise (www.kenaninstitute.unc.edu).

Program Highlights

• Concentrations in Entrepreneurship in both MBA and BSBA programs taught by leading faculty scholars and experienced entrepreneurs, with over 26 courses in the curriculum.

• A wide range of extracurricular student programs, such as the nationally celebrated Venture Capital Investment Competition (VCIC, www.vcic.org), UNC's Carolina Challenge Venture Competition, the Carolina Launch Program and numerous student entrepreneurship organizations.

• Sponsor two student-run private equity funds.

• Developed a comprehensive Family Enterprise curriculum.

• Partnership with the Small Business and Technology Development Center (SBTDC, www.SBTDC.org), providing management counseling and educational services to North Carolina businesses and employing student consultants to entrepreneurial companies.

• Ranked No. 4 of the top U.S. MBA graduate programs for entrepreneurship by Entrepreneur magazine and The Princeton Review (2008)

• Ranked No. 3 in U.S. Entrepreneurship by US News and World Report (2008)

• Named one of America’s Best Colleges for Entrepreneurs by Fortune Small Business

• UNC-Chapel Hill Named No. 1 Entrepreneurial University by Princeton Review and Forbes.com
