OUR MISSION
Landmark College’s mission is to transform the way students learn, educators teach and the public thinks about education. We provide highly accessible approaches to learning that empower individuals who learn differently to exceed their aspirations and to achieve their greatest potential. Through the Landmark College Institute for Research and Training, the College aims to extend its mission across the nation and throughout the world.
AT A GLANCE
Landmark College is a two-year liberal arts institution of higher education, serving students with learning disabilities and attention deficit disorders, which fosters the capacity for independent creative thought, and engaged and responsible world citizenship. Integrating principles of universal design and strategic learning within a technology-rich, learning-centered environment, Landmark’s faculty and staff bring unprecedented experience and expertise to their work with students. In the classrooms and residence halls, through the advising model, and through an extensive network of support systems, students receive a high degree of individual attention as they develop self-understanding, self-advocacy, and lifelong learning skills, and learn to function autonomously in mainstream settings.
AN INTEGRATED APPROACH
While many colleges offer special programs for students with learning difficulties, Landmark College is one
of the only accredited colleges in the U.S. designed exclusively for students with dyslexia, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), or other specific learning disabilities. Why does Landmark’s approach succeed? Because we teach the skills and strategies necessary for success in college and the workforce. At Landmark, students learn how to learn, and this knowledge helps them become more confident and independent. All of this is achieved through an integrated approach to learning. Landmark College strongly believes that bright students who learn differently can also learn to achieve and thrive. Students at Landmark get far more personal, directed assistance than at other colleges. Each student receives individualized attention from classroom instructors—in courses tailored to meet their individual learning style. Courses are offered in skills development and for college credit. Students can earn an A.A. degree in Business Administration, Business Studies, Liberal Arts or General Studies. Experienced advisors meet frequently with students to review and guide their progress. All instructors are trained professional educators, not teaching assistants or peer tutors.
GROWTH AND DISCOVERY
The time at Landmark College is a time of exploration and learning while students also discover their own personal strengths and abilities. A time for them to develop their potential, to make friends, discover talents, and explore interests. The College offers a wide variety of sports and social activities, both on a beautiful wooded campus and in the surrounding community. In addition to athletics, activities, and all the off-campus resources of beautiful New England, an important aspect of student life at Landmark College is life in the residence halls that includes social and educational programs. Students develop a strong sense of community and a true commitment to learning—inside and outside of the classroom. Student development professionals also live in each residence.
