ILLINOIS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY
Center Overview
Knapp Center clients, which range from inventors with an idea to successful business owners and entrepreneurs, can leverage the Center’s resources, along with those provided by the University Technology Park and the Chicagoland community, to help think through their ideas, start their business, develop a sound plan for success, and prepare for and take on smart investment. The Knapp Center provides opportunities for connections in all fields of endeavor as part of the premier technological university in the Chicago region.
Outreach
The Knapp Center serves as a link between Chicago and the IIT community, creating employment opportunities between highly skilled and motivated students and its client companies. It also connects start-ups with some of the top research faculty and facilities in the world.
In addition to its work with private companies, the Knapp Center works with the Entrepreneurship Program at IIT to support a strong entrepreneurship curriculum across the university. The Knapp Center also provides educational opportunities for the general public through special events, including a monthly networking reception and lecture series, and conferences and seminars hosted in partnership with other entrepreneurship organizations.
Overview of Academic Programs
In contrast yet complimentary to the Knapp Center’s business services, the Entrepreneurship Program at IIT (EP) focuses broadly on the academic side of entrepreneurship. The EP works to develop a cross-disciplinary entrepreneurial curriculum, faculty exchange, and as a sponsor of the IIT Entrepreneurship Academy, promotes entrepreneurship among all students. The EP also focuses on community outreach, striving to make IIT a widely recognized “thought leader” in the emerging field of entrepreneurship.
