Berry College

Campbell School of Business

Paula Englis, Associate Professor

Overview

Berry College has a rich history of entrepreneurship spanning more than 100 years and starting with our founder, Martha Berry. Many of our successful alumni have started businesses and contributed in meaningful ways to their communities. Our mission is to educate the head, heart and hands.

The Program

While there is no formal program, many business majors and minors focus their electives in entrepreneurship. Currently, we offer three classes- Intro to Ent., E-Commerce Marketing Strategy and Advanced Ent.. We focus on helping students experience entrepreneurship Firsthand. Thus they participate in entrepreneurial internships, help community non-for-profit startups or run their businesses in our incubator. Check out some recent alumni's firms: www.paperbackswap.com, www.dynamixwebdesign.com, www.premierfirewood.com.

Our Activities

* 10th Annual Entrepreneur Speaker Series - features alumni and other interesting entrepreneurs from a variety of industries.

* Entrepreneurship Across the Curriculum Speaker Series - partnership with other academic units. Recently featured veterinarian Dan Pate speaking to the Pre-Vet Club in partnership with animal science.

* Entrepreneurship Film Festival - featuring student videographies to address theme, "What is entrepreneurship?" in coordination with startup firm, StarinU.com.

* Entrepreneur in Residence - successful entrepreneurs spend the day at Berry and meet with students to give advice about their startup ventures.

* Progressive Dinner - features entrepreneurs and students in Intro to Ent. Students receive $100 in course to start a business. During the dinner, students and entrepreneurs share ideas and advice. Entrepreneurs rotate tables with every course change.
